The Cherokee Nati onal Historical Society, Inc. would like to congratulate all the artists for their entries into the 15th Annual Cherokee Homecoming Art Show and Sale. This year's show had 192 entries making this the largest Homecoming Art Show ever. Artists and friends were hosted at the Reception and Award Ceremony Friday August 20th, from 6-8pm.
The grand prize winner was Dan Horsechief for his oil painting "From the Ashes." Congratulations to all the winners.
Thank you Cherokee Nation Entertainment (CNE) for being the major sponsor of this event.
⊕The Cherokee Humanities Course will start on August 30. This is a 15 week course. The class is held each Monday evening from 6 - 9 pm at the Osiyo Training room, Cherokee Nation Complex. The application deadline is July 30. Call 918.456.6007 ext. 6160 for information.
⊕ Gene Norris (CHC Genealogist) will be speaking at the monthly C.N. History Talk Friday, August 27. This is an important topic and addresses some of the most frequently asked questions in the C.N. Also, 2009 was a record year in Genealogy, with well over 19,000 contacts. Through the end of July 2010, the number of contacts in Genealogy is up an incredible 45% from that record pace. There is a profound and growing interest in Cherokee genealogy in the U.S. and the administration, and board of trustees, are very proud of the work that Gene and assistant genealogist Ben Chasenah do in making sure accurate information is presented to everyone.
⊕Gathering of the Tahlequah Native American Flute Circle at the Heritage Center. All skill levels are welcome. Call 918-456-6007 for time and dates, or email exhibits@cherokeeheritage.org
⊕Adams Corner Rural Village presents Fiber Arts Day on the first Saturday of each month. Demonstrations of early crafts like basketry, cord braiding, chair caning, crocheting, quilting, and finger weaving will be shown.
⊕Thank you to all the volunteers that have helped us with all of our programs and special events. As of July 14, the volunteer hours recorded was 7,700. This demonstrates how much non-profits depend on outstanding community members who donate their time and efforts. We couldn't do it without you! You are the BEST!

The Cherokee Heritage Center Seeking Vendors for 58th Annual Cherokee National Holiday
Booth space will be available on the beautifully landscaped campus of the Cherokee Heritage Center (CHC) where thousands will stroll leisurely under the shade of the woodland foliage during the fun and excitement of the 58th Annual Cherokee National Holiday held over the Labor Day weekend.
“We encourage art and craft vendors to take advantage of this once a year event,” said Tom Mooney, archivist at the CHC. “This is a great opportunity for those who have the talent and skills to show and sell their arts and crafts.”
All vendors must be citizens of a federally recognized tribe. Event coordinators encourage vendors to complete and return their applications quickly, as booth space at the Cherokee Heritage Center venue is limited.
During the festival there will also be live demonstrations, storytelling and music.
For more information and to receive an application, contact the CHC at (918) 456-6007, email badair@cherokeeheritage.org.
The Cherokee National Holiday has been held since 1953 to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Constitution. With its exciting array of entertainment, cultural and athletic events, it has grown into one of the largest festivals in Oklahoma, attracting more than 90,000 visitors from across the world. This year’s theme is “Happy, Healthy People.” The 58th Cherokee National Holiday is a smoke-free event. For a full schedule of events and event locations for the Cherokee National Holiday call (918) 453-5536.
